WUS students - An introduction to the Library
Welcome to the Library! You will visit us a lot over the next three years, whether that is part of a class, taking part in our reading programme, joining BookMark, or just visiting the Library during social times. Below is a quick guide on how you can use the Library and what we have available.
When can I visit the Library?
Aside from during class, the Library is open:
Monday – Thursday, 8am – 4pm
Friday, 8am – 3:30pm
This includes breaktimes and lunchtimes
How many books can I take out?
Students in Years 9 – 11 can take out up to four books, stamped for four weeks
How do I know what the library has available?
Our Library system, Oliver, is a hosted webpage, which means that anyone can search our catalogue. Use the basic search, and type in either the author or the title of the book you are looking for. If we have the resource, it will appear on the page. If we have it available on the shelves, a green tick will appear next to the book. To search the catalogue, click here
I've found the book on the catalogue - now what?
If you would like to borrow the book, pop into the Library and speak to either Miss Chatley or Mrs Blunt, who will be able to help find the book with you and loan it out.
I've haven’t finished my book and it’s due back -
If you’re enjoying the book you have out but you have come to the end of the four weeks, visit the Library where you can ask for it to be renewed – this will give you another four weeks! Be aware that if a book becomes overdue, you will at first receive reminders from your tutors, and then letters will be sent home.
I’ve lost a book – what do I do?
We are human, and with being human we can sometimes misplace things, including Library books. There is no punishment for a lost book – but we do ask for payment so that we can replace the title for someone else to borrow. Please come and speak to us if you think a book that you have borrowed is missing.
What else is available from the Library?
We have ten computers in the Library, all available to use for homework during our open hours. To find out about current news and information on hobbies, come and take a look at our magazine and newspaper subscriptions. Or if you want a bit of downtime, and don’t want to read whilst in the Library, ask us for a chess set, or complete our puzzle in the sofa area.
On Thursdays Wk 1 we run our bookclub, BookMark, and every Friday we host ‘Games Fridays’, where you can choose from a selection of board games.
Scholastic Reading Pro
You will visit the Library approximately once a term with your English class to complete our reading programme. Aimed at helping you choose books, the programme asks a set of questions, and then gives you a recommended list of books that we have in the Library to choose. Once you’ve read the book you chose, you can log back in to the programme and take the quiz – and earn points whilst doing it!
We hope to see you soon in the Library!
